Mr. Harold David Harshman, age 89 of Mt. Airy, passed away on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at the Kline Hospice House, Mt. Airy. He was the husband for 66 years of Edythe Brandenburg Harshman who he married on October 27, 1945. Born on April 21, 1923 in New Market he was the son of the late Harry Herbert and Ella Burrier Harshman.Mr. Harshman was a life long member of the Bush Creek Church of the Brethren in Monrovia. He served as the church board chairman, a deacon, former trustee, and sang in the Golden Rule Choir. He also served the church by being on the cemetery board and was a former chairman of the cemetery.His family was the 1983 Frederick County 4-H family of the year, the 1984 Maryland 4-H family of the year and the 2009 Frederick County farm family of the year. In 2009 his family received the 4-H Beef, Sheep and Swine Club Angel Award. He served on the county committee of the USDA Farmers Home Administration. He served on the Board of Directors for Southern States Cooperation, Frederick, MD. He was a 50 year member of the Frederick County Farm Bureau. He was a member of Maryland and Virginia Milk Producers Association and shipped milk for over 50 years. He was the past Sales Chairman of the 4-H Beef, Sheep and Swine Club. He was also a life member of the New Market Volunteer Fire Company and an honorary member of the Linganore FFA Chapter.
