Panko Szewczyk, 49 years old, 211 Hacker avenue, dropped dead at 9:30 o'clock this morning while at work in the blast furnace room at the Illinois Steel company plant. Szewczyk had apparently been in perfect health according to Depouty Coroner Willard Blood, who began an inquiry into the case. Blood said a post-mortem operation would be performed to determine the cause of death. It is believed Szewczyk was seized by a sudden heart attack. -Joliet Evening Herald-News, May 29, 1931

Szewczyk - Panko, aged 49, died suddenly at the Illinois Steel Co. plant, May 29, 1931. Survived by his wife, Mary, four sons, Peter, Adam, Rudolph and Frederick. Funeral Monday, June 1, from his late home, 211 Hacker Ave., at 8:30 a.m. to St. Thaddeus church at 9. Interment in Holy Cross cemetery. Service by Markiewicz and Pisut. -Joliet Sunday Herald-News , May 31, 1931.


**Arrived through Ellis Island on June 2, 1905 from Bremen on the "SS Barbarossa". Was not married and arrived by himself. By 1910 he was married and living in Joliet with extended family.
