Sarah Jane Wells Dead
Word was received this morning of the death of Miss Sarah Jane Wells, which occurred at the State Hospital at Topeka last evening. The body was brought to Manhattan at 12:30 today, and the funeral will be held tomorrow from the home of her brother, George Wells, 231 Osage Street at 2:30 o'clock.

Sarah Jane Wells was born in Coshocton, Ohio, August 28, 1844, and died in the Topeka State Hospital December 9, 1914, at the age of 70 years, 3 months and 11 days. She was brought to Kansas by her parents in 1877 and they became one of the earliest families of this city, where the Wells family has continued today.
When a girl about 14 years of age Miss Sarah had the misfortune to fall and receive serious injuries to her spine and after a few years the result was the loss of her mind, and though she was blessed with fairly good health, yet she was of unsound mind for more than fifty years of her lifetime. For the greater portion of this time she was cared for at home, but in later years it became necessary to have her cared for in the state hospital. About the first of this month she was taken with the la grippe and this soon developed pneumonia with effusion pericarditis; her sickness lasted only about one week. The body was brought here to the home of her brother George Wells, and the funeral services were held at the home and burial was made in the Sunset Cemetery. The deceased leaves one brother, George Wells, and two nephews, J. O. and J. W. Laffer, and many old time friends to mourn her sad life and her death.
