NOTE: Although the headstone shows that Azubah died in her 73rd year (1796), all other records (including Massachussetts birth) show Azubah's birth year as 1797, so we will leave the birth year as 1797 for now.

Azubah Johnson is the 2nd of three children born to Nathan Johnson, Jr. (1769-1821), and Mary "Polly" (Johnson) Johnson (1774-1824). Azubah's father Nathan Johnson was descended from Capt. John Johnson, English immigrant in 1630 to Massachussetts Bay Colony (Duxbury), his son Sgt. Humphrey Johnson, his son Capt. Isaac Johnson, and his grandson Josiah Johnson, who married Azubah Cary, 3rd great-grandaughter of John Alden & Priscilla Mullins of Plymouth Colony fame. The Cary's can also been traced back to royalty in England (c. 1100), so Azubah has a lengthy and interesting registry.

On 02 Oct 1813, Azubah married Chester Cooley in Bridgewater, Plymouth, MA, at the age of 23.

Together they had eight children:

1-Chester Cooley Jr. (1815 – 1881) m. 1st Lucinda Adams, 2nd Nancy ---

2-Rebecca Cooley (1817 – 1910) m. Russell Loomis (8 ch.)

3-Lathrop Cooley (1821 – 1910) m. Violetta E Searles (1 ch.)

4-Timothy Cooley (1823 – 1894) m. 1st Margaret Stone; m. 2nd Eliza H. Ward

5-George Cooley (1827 – 1861)

6-Egbert Cooley (1830 – 1911) m. Elizabeth Ann Davidson (8 ch.)

7-Mary Abigail Cooley (1835 – 1858)

8-Maria Cooley (1837 – 1933) m. Milton Lorenzo Healy (3 ch.)
