Mary's obituary, written by A.T. Vestal, states that she was born in Pennsylvania. She was a daughter of Isaac Fordyce (1766-1840) and Susannah Jennings (1772-1831). She married the Reverend Joseph H. Markey (a Wesleyan Methodist preacher) in Harrison Co., Ohio on April 8, 1830, and was the mother of twelve children, six of whom were living at the time of her death. She was a member of the Wesleyan society at Stafford that her husband had established. She spent her last days at the home of one of her sons, and where her funeral was held. She and Joseph are buried at Stafford Cemetary, but apparently have no markers. Her children included: Barnett, William, Jane, Margaret W., Adeline, Newton, Joseph B., Mary A., Fletcher, Wesley, Orange Scott, and George T.
