Calvin was born in Pepin County, Wisconsin to George and Frances (Wakefield) Livingston. The family moved to Colburn, Wisconsin, where he lived with his parents, sister and three brothers. Calvin's father died in November of 1906. A year and a half later, he and his brothers were committed to the State School at Sparta, while his sister remained in Chippewa County. At age 22, Calvin is listed in the 1920 census as a boarder living in Worley, Idaho. He met Esther Davidson (daughter of A.M. Davidson & Emma Boardman), whom he married on 12/02/1924 at Polson, Montana and with whom he had three children: Neva, Floy and Raymond. Calvin was a dairy farmer.
