Christine Suedmeyer
February 28, 1920 - June 2, 2012

Cleo "Christine" (Farrell) Suedmeyer, 92, previously of Kirksville, Missouri passed away on June 2, 2012 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. Christine was born on a farm south of Lancaster, Missouri on February 28, 1920; the daughter of LeRoy and Carrie Leona (Gosser) Farrell. At the age of 20 she was stricken with polio. With the assistance of the March of Dimes, she recovered in Warm Springs, Georgia at the Roosevelt Institute. While there, she met President Roosevelt and her future husband, Philip, who contracted polio while serving in China during World War II.

Christine and Phil were married December 12, 1942. They had two daughters, Kathren and Karen. They owned and operated a jewelry store and watch repair business for many years. In 1963, Christine started working as a communications supervisor at KCOM and retired from that position in 1985. She returned to work in 1986 as a part time archivist of all newspaper stories concerning KCOM, it's staff and students, and retired in 1998.

Christine belonged to the Kirksville Christian Church for many years. She was a faithful member and constant volunteer. She was often seen bringing a casserole to homebound individuals and visiting folks in the hospital. She was recognized for her efforts in 1994 when presented with the Max Patterson Distinguished Individual Award for her outstanding service to the community. Her faith in God, which she shared with others through volunteerism, was her gift.

In 1998 on her way to bring a casserole to someone in need, Christine suffered a hip fracture, which left her unable to remain in her beloved home in Kirksville. So fearlessly, she moved north to Minnesota to be with her two daughters and their family. Christine made Minnesota her home at Northridge Care Center, where she made many friends. She also enjoyed the many activities offered including pokino, bingo, movie night, bell ringers, choir, ceramics and always a hot game of dominos. She continued to volunteer with many of the activities for the residents and enjoyed visiting friends in the nursing home wing to comfort them. For her family in Minnesota, it was a wonderful blessing to have her so close and there are so many happy memories.

Preceding her in death was Philip Suedmeyer; her parents; two sisters, Ermina Ross and Hilma Tade; two brothers, Morris Edison and Forrest Farrell; 1 daughter, Kathren Webb and grandson, Tim Moen. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Suedmeyer; 1 granddaughter, Carrie Moen; 1 great granddaughter, Charlotte Moen and 1 son-in-law, Miles Webb. Cleo Christine Suedmeyer had many names in her life: Christine, Wife, Mother, Supervisor "Aunt Tine", Friend, Volunteer, Grandma, Great Grandma, but she will always be remembered this way:

Always with a twinkle in her eye
Always a smile on her face
Always faith and compassion overflowing her soul
She was the stuff of which angels are made
When all heaven protested her absence
Her Creator called her home.
