Christian and his twin brother Martin Camp were the sons of Johann Georg Michael Kempf and Anna Barbara Schlessmann. He served as a Private in Co. I of the Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry from 10 Aug 1862 to 12 May 1863 during the Civil War. His grave marker and burial record state the 140th regiment, the 1890 U.S. veterens' census gives the 126th, but all muster roll records give the 134th.
