John Bartholomew Troillet was born Jean Barthelemy Troillet in Valais, Switzerland, to Jean Antoine and Marie Bornet Troillet on Sept. 30, 1860. At confirmation, he took as his saint's name, Antoine.

He met and courted Mary Louise Metrailer of Valais. They were married in the Cathedral of Sion in Sion on Dec. 8, 1885. This union lasted until his death and produced eleven children.

John and Mary Louise and several of their children emigrated to the United States in 1894. They made their home in Conway, Arkansas, and became active in the community and Saint Joseph Catholic Church.
