Lochlan McLean was born Nov 10 1847 in Nova Scotia to Donald McLean and Mary Patterson. He married Helen (Mary Ellen) Haines sometime by or prior to 1868. By 1870 they were in Saginaw, Michigan where their daughter Flora was born that April. They probably reurned to Ontario, before coming to Chase, Michigan by 1882 where their son Horace was born. His first wife Mary is likely the daughter of Alson Haines and Melinda J. Warren, and was born about 1851 in New York state. The Alson Haines family moved to Canada by the 1860's, and in 1870 are found in the Saginaw County Census. It is not known when Helen died, but Lochlan remarried to Alice Barto Haff on April 28 1898 by J. J. Tanner, J.O.P. in Chase. Alice (b. 1857 was daughter of Harmon Barto and Clarinda Perkins.) By 1906 she was remarried.

-Lockey McLean, an old resident of Chase, died at the Manistee Hospital on Saturday, the 10th inst. The remains were brought here on the Monday morning train, and buried at 3p.m. The funeral was held from the Congregational Church, conducted by Reverand A.J. Iden.
-Laughlin McLean died at Mercy Hospital, Manistee, last Saturday. The remains were brought here Monday for burial. The funeral was held at the Congregational Church, conducted by Rev. A.J. Iden.
