Mark was a life-long devoted member of the Catholic Church and was a member of Queen of Apostles church for many years and most recently ST. Peter's Church in Council Bluffs. He also served many years as a member of the Knights of Columbus and held the post of Navigator. Mark was well known for his active participation in horse shows throughout the Midwest, he spent more than 20 years riding, showing and raising Quarter horses. Mark and Vernee were able to travel the world on trips Mark earned through his appliance sales. After he retired they enjoyed traveling the U. S. in their camper.
He is predeceased by his parents; brother, George; and daughter, Mary Lee Wahle-Yost.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laverna, sons, Pat (Jacquelynn), of Council Bluff, Terry, of Glenwood; daughters, Michelle Ballantine (Alan), of Murrieta, Calif., Kathy Hayes (Curt), of Council Bluffs, and Peggy Porter (Don), of Salt Lake City, Utah. They have nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Dick and wife Jeanine, of Blair, Neb., and Jim, of Humphrey, Neb.
A Memorial Mass will be held in Council Bluffs at St. Peters Catholic Church on November 22, at 10 a.m., followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family would like to thank Risen Son and AsceraCare Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Mark during the past year. Memorials may be presented to Risen Son, AsceraCare Hospice, and St. Peter's Catholic Church.
