Gertrude [Niederman] Scott was the daughter of Benjamin Niederman and Rosa [Herzog] Niederman, both of whom were born in Ungvar, Hungary and immigrated to the United States with Gertrude and her siblings Moritz (Maurice) Jacob, Regina O., Malvina D., Leo Herzog and Sara C. Niederman. Benjamin opened a furniture store in Chicago, Illinois and the children were raised there.
Gertrude married William ‘Doke' Scott on September 23, 1915 in Chicago. William Doke Scott was born November 10, 1885 in Riner, Montgomery County, Virginia. William had graduated from the University of Illinois at Champaign in 1910 with a graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked in New Haven, Connecticut; Syracuse, New York; and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Gertrude and William had two children: Virginia Ruth, who was born in Virginia and Robert F. Scott, who was born in Connecticut.
