Alvin Ahlstrom Bixler, 70, died Thursday at his home after a long illness.

He was born Jan. 8, 1914 in Painesville. He was a lifelong resident of Painesville and Fairport, and retired from Diamond Shamrock in 1978 after 44 years.

Mr. Bixler was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport. During World War II he served in the U. S. Air Force, Squadron 908, 409th Air Service Group.

He was preceded in death by his son, Paul.
