Deirdre took her own life. She had tried to kill herself before when she was 11 years old by swallowing a full bottle of aspirin. Her 15 year old sister, Angelique, took her to Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, Texas to have her stomach pumped. Brackenridge is now Del Medical School. It was built in 2017.

The day Deirdre died she had an argument with her sister while driving home after having an abortion. While sitting in the passenger seat, Deirdre opened the door and fell out of the car. The car was going at about 75 miles per hour. Deirdre fell out of a car on which she was a passenger. Deirdre opened her car door and died on an Amarillo highway in Potter County, Texas on the 22nd of June 1985 at the age of 19.
