He was the son of David and Ida Cassatt. He served in the U. S. Army Nov. 1892-Jan. 1895. He was in the U. S. Marine Corps Apr. 1898-Apr 1903. He was in the Phillippine Islands for 3 1/2 years during which time he was in combat. He married Mary J. Dermody in Philadelphia in May 15, 1903. He served as a constable in McSherrystown and its health officer. Later he was a nightwatchman. He was active in the Spanish American War Veterans Association, serving one term as its chaplain. They had four children: Ethel, Mary, John and Rita.
