He graduated in 1953 from Fredericksburg High School and was later a member of the Fightin' Texas Aggie class of 1957, earning a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree. After graduation, he went to work for the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas, followed by Community Savings of Fredericksburg, and then Center Savings of Houston. In 1966 he helped establish Bexar Savings and Loan of San Antonio, serving as its President for 25 years. He was also a founding partner of Grona, Boles, Martin, and Bloxsom Insurance Agency. Hayden served on the Boards of the San Antonio Water System, Kirby State Bank, and the Texas A&M 12th Man Foundation. He was former President of the Local Ducks Unlimited Chapter and the San Antonio A&M Club. Hayden was also an active member of the Texas Deer Association.
He married Vera Kunz in 1962 in Kerrville and enjoyed 49 plus years together. Hayden enjoyed hunting, fishing at the coast, cattle ranching, raising White Tail deer, and attending Texas A&M football games. He also enjoyed the outdoors with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Stanley, Elbert, Clinton and Sidney Grona.
Hayden is survived by his wife, Vera Kunz; three children, Nelson Grona and wife, Shannon, Jim Grona and wife, Shelly, Suzanne Grona White and husband, David; grandchildren, Hunter Grona, Lauren Grona, Allison Grona, Valerie Grona, Emily Grona, Carol Anne White and Hayden Elizabeth White; brother, Floyd Grona of Fort Worth; sister, Isabell Meier of Luckenbach and numerous nieces and nephews.
