John is survived by his loving children, Ken Franke of Woodridge, IL, Kathy (Chris) Lavery and Kimberly (Ray) Bingham, both of Downers Grove, IL; his cherished grandchildren, Kristin (Carl) Monaco, Samantha Franke, Sarah (Nate) Galati and Johnathan Bingham; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years, Elenore, nee Novak; his parents, and two brothers and four sisters.
John was a proud US Army veteran of World War II. He earned a Bronze Star for his bravery and a Purple Heart for wounds received in action in France in 1944. He retired as a truck driver from Crane Company. He also worked as a security guard at Edward Hospital and Loyola Medical Center. John always loved to travel with his wife and truly enjoyed his retirement years in Florida. He was a diehard Cubs fan, loved to play cards and was an excellent cook.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St Ambrose Catholic Church would be greatly appreciated.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 16, 5:00-7:00 PM at the Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Naperville. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 17, 12:00 Noon at St Ambrose Catholic Church, 1703 Burry Circle, Crest Hill, 60435 IL.
Interment will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
