Larry Wayne Russell of Athens, Alabama passed away on Friday, January 2, 2004 at Huntsville Hospital. He was 42.


Larry was a Sgt. with the Athens Police Department with 19 years of service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and was an instructor of the defensive driving course. Also, he was a member of the Friendship United Methodist Church.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ferne Russell and a brother-in-law, Larry Leet.


He is survived by his wife, Michele M. Russell; two sons, Luke Russell and Jacob Russell; two daughters, Lacey McCrae and fiance, Adam Boyd and Shanika McCrae, all of Athens; one brother and sister-in-law, Ronnie and Sherry Russell of Goose Creed, S.C.; one sister, Gail Russell Ultz of Athens; nieces and nephews, Sara and Jamie Ultz and Ronnie and Cody Russell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lawrence and Francis Leet; and brothers-inlaw and sister-in-law, Eugene and Theresa Conrad and Ronald B. Ultz.


Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.


The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. Calvin Havens, Floyd Johnson, and Ron Russell officiating. He will lie-instate from 10 to 11 a.m.


Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery. Athens Police Department day shift will serve as pallbearers and law enforcement personnel will serve as honorary pallbearers.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Memorial Fund at Reliance Bank, 112 N. Jefferson Street, Athens.
