William "Bill" Moeder, 89, died Wednesday, May 3 at his home in La Crosse. He was born February 25, 1917, in rural Rush County, the son of Pius and Mary (Steiner) Moeder. Mr. Moeder was a lifelong resident of Rush County.

Mr. Moeder was a 1937 graduate of La Crosse High School. He worked 37 years at the Farmers & Merchants State Bank before his retirement in 1984.

Mr. Moeder was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. He was a Lifetime Member/Knights of Columbus #2970 and a Lifetime Member/VFW Post #3147, both of La Crosse. He was a member of the United States Army, serving February 18, 1941, to October 31, 1945, in the European Theater. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the American Defense Service Ribbon. He served in Campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe. Mr. Moeder married Emma Herrman on January 22, 1946, at St. Michael's Church in La Crosse.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Moeder of La Crosse; two sons, Norbert and his wife Cheri Moeder of La Crosse, and Bennett and his wife Alisa Moeder of Otis; four daughters, Linda Martin of Overland Park, Barbara and her husband Ken Beran of Hays, Patricia and her husband Maurice Haberman of Great Bend, and Carol and her husband Joe Scott of Sublette; one brother, Rudy Moeder of Wichita; one sister, Sister Scholastica Moeder of Wichita; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pius and Mary (Steiner) Moeder; one grandson, Philip Scheuerman; three brothers, Leo Moeder, Albert Moeder, and Thomas Moeder; and one sister, Monica Moeder. On May 5th, funeral services were held at St. Michael's Catholic Church in La Crosse with Father Ultan Murphy officiating. Interment in the La Crosse City Cemetery.
