On June 9, 1939 he married Laura "Lorraine" Saunders in Howard, Kansas. Together they had one son, Don L. Mason. He served in the United States Army. Don owned the Oldsmobile Car Dealership until 1948. He then went to work at Saunders Milling Company as the Assistant Manager and later retired from the Council Grove School System after driving a bus for 21 years.
Donald enjoyed boating, fishing and traveling with Lorraine in their motor home. The best time of his life was while his grandson Jeff lived with him and Lorraine while attending college.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and of American Legion, both of Council Grove, Kansas. He also served on the Council Grove City Commission.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine of the home, son, Don L. Mason and wife Betty Rose, of Kingman, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his grandson Jeff Mason.
At his request, Mr. Mason was cremated. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm, Friday, March 13, 2009, at the United Methodist Church, with Pastor Larry Buss officiating.
