Laura "Lorraine" Mason, 89, lifetime resident of Council Grove, KS, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Morris County Hospital.
She was born June 9, 1923 in Council Grove to Joseph Lewis and Marie Pearl(Mauk) Saunders, Jr.
Lorraine married Donald H. Mason on June 9, 1939, in Howard Kansas. Together they had one son, Don L. Mason.
She was a bookkeeper at the J. L. Saunders Milling Company from 1946 until 1964 when her parents retired and sold the milling business. She then pursued a long time dream – to own and operate a ladies dress shop. She established Lorraine's Style Shop in Council Grove and continued to run it for twenty three years until she retired.
Lorraine played the piano, accordion, and violin. She did many kinds of handwork and loved to cook. She also enjoyed outdoor activities – boating, fishing, hunting, and traveling with her husband in their motor home. She could also be seen zipping around the neighborhood on her motor scooter. Lorraine was a teacher with the After School Program ran by the United Methodist Church for several years.
Lorraine was a member of the Council Grove United Methodist Church, Old Mission Chapter 178 Order of the Eastern Star and the Council Grove Chamber of Commerce.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald on March 10, 2009; brother Virgil Saunders on November 5, 1940 and grandson Jeff Mason on February 7, 2008.
Lorraine is survived by her son, Don L. Mason and wife Betty, of Kingman, KS, niece Joey DeVivo, nephew Bob Morgan and her loving companion Buffy.
