William G. (Bill) Burd passed away peacefully in Cerritos, California on May 19, 2012 at the age of 95. He is survived by his loving sons, Wayne and Gene; daughter-in-law, Rhonda and wife, Maxine. Bill was a loving grandfather to Megan Livesey, Tara and Erik Burd; and great-grandfather to Erica and Paige Livesey. Born July 21, 1916 in Wyoming and grew up in California. He moved to Lebec, CA as a young adult and was editor of the local newspaper. Bill served in the Air Force during WWII. He received training as a bombardier for the B-17 bomber and then became a staff sergeant in training operations for future bombardiers. Honorably discharged in 1945, he returned to California with his English bride, Amy Salthouse. He was predeceased by Amy in 1992 and his second wife, Henrietta Van Mersbergen, in 2008. His working career was varied from auto mechanic, ice delivery, lunch truck catering to handyman services. However, his real priorities in life were attending his son's sporting events and maintaining lifelong friendships. His family and friends remember him for his steadfast support, guidance, generosity and love. The years spent with him will be cherished for his outgoing social nature, his great love of people, life and his sharp mind that led him to interest in many activities. While he can no longer be with us, we rejoice that as a Christian, he is in the hands of the Lord.
