Jerome P. "Jerry" Luber, 84, of Jacksonville, IL died Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Barton W. Stone Home in Jacksonville.
He was born February 14, 1926 in Pocahontas, IL; the son of George and Alvina Frey Luber. He married Rose E. Paoletti on October 15, 1949 in Highland, IL and she survives.
He is also survived by four children, Susan Kolster (husband, Bill) of Ashburn, VA, Tom Luber (wife, Theresa) of South Jacksonville, Rick Luber (wife, Donita) of Jacksonville, and Chris Luber (wife, Stacey) of Troy; eight grandchildren, Christopher Kolster (wife, Kristen) of Leesburg, VA, Kara Kolster of Richmond, VA, Kristen Marshall (husband, Jared) of South Jacksonville, Nathan Luber of South Jacksonville, Megan Luber and Rachael Luber, both of Jacksonville, Jordan Luber and Courtney Luber, both of Troy; two great grandchildren, Mason and Mya Marshall; three brothers, Herb Luber (wife, Marie) of Highland, George Luber Jr. (wife, Susie) of Pocahontas, and Ken Luber (wife, Sandy) of Troy, MO; a sister, Mildred Cox of Highland; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Brian Luber; four brothers, Paul Luber (surviving wife, Sue of Carthage, TX), Omer Luber, Ivan Luber, and Ray Luber; and a sister, Lauretta Kantner.
Mr. Luber was a 1943 graduate of St. Paul's High School in Highland. He assisted with the family farming operation prior to joining the US Navy where he served from 1945-47. Upon his return, Jerry worked for a lumberyard in Highland and later was the assistant manager of a lumberyard in New Athens. He later joined Building Products Supply as a warehouse manager in East St. Louis. The company constructed a window manufacturing plant in Roodhouse and Jerry served as its manager from 1964-76. In 1976, he acquired the plant equipment and established his own window firm, Northernaire Manufacturing Company, in Murrayville which he operated until his retirement in 1999.
A dedicated Rotarian, he was a member and past president of the Roodhouse Rotary Club and later joined the Jacksonville Rotary Club where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Church of Our Saviour and devoted his time to saving the old parish rectory. An avid boater, he constructed with great pride, a Chris Craft boat from a kit. He also enjoyed bicycling and was formerly active with the Jacksonville Bicycle Club. Through his affiliation with the Jacksonville Area Chamber of Commerce, Jerry enjoyed participating with the Private Industry Council for several years.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial Mass will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at the Church of Our Saviour with interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends at the church from 10:00 AM Wednesday until the time of services. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, the Church of Our Saviour, or the Old Rectory Task Force.
