Eldridge - Funeral Services and Mass of Christian Burial for Arthur A. Blavat, 71, will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 417 Main St., Davenport. Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal, with Military Rites conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Post 299. Visitation will be Monday, May 28, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, 614 Main St., Davenport. Additional visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Arthur died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at his home in Eldridge.
Arthur Anthony Blavat was born September 18, 1940, in Stevens Point, Wis., the son of Benedict and Minnie (Glodowski) Blavat. Arthur served his country in the Army. He was united in marriage to Angie J. Badon, May 4, 1968, in Stevens Point. He retired in 2007 as a railroad engineer.
Art was a better man to others than he was to himself. He never stopped being a provider for his family, even after his own kids were grown and had families of their own. His support was just in different ways. He enjoyed the activities of his four grandchildren most of all. Art was their biggest fan. He was the one with a smile from ear-to-ear and eyes sparkling with pride and joy. He always had a joke to share with a friend or a stranger. He would hold conversations with any open ear. Art would lend his last dollar to help someone truly in need and he both loved and treasured family. He will be missed, and we were blessed to be a part of his life.
