My Great Great Grandfather

The community was shocked Monday evening, August 8, 1932 to learn of the very sudden death of Gene Sperry at his farm home three miles north of Brownsdale. Death was caused by heart failure, following a 10 day illness with pneumonia. The funeral will be held this afternoon with a service at the home at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. W.K. Howland conducting the service and the body will be laid to rest in the Waltham cemetery, near the farm.
Eugene Hamilton Sperry was born at Burnett, Wisc., on January 27, 1865. He was married to Alice Danley on October 2, 1896. One child was born to the couple and the little one died in infancy. They later adopted a son Harold, now living at Addison, Ill., and a daughter Ida, living at home.
The deceased came to Minnesota in 1907 and settled on the farm which has since been his home. He has been a lifelong member of the Baptist church, joining the Burnett church in early life and uniting with the membership of Brownsdale Baptist church when coming to this place. He has been a faithful member, and for many years was active in his church work, until failing health in the past few years has made church attendance impossible much of the time. Gene Sperry was the type of man whom everyone was glad to know and proud to claim as a friend. He was honest and dependable in all business dealings, filled with sympathy for those less fortunate than himself, generous in thought and deed with his neighbors and associates and a kind, loving, and thoughtful husband and father.
