Funeral Rites Arranged for Arthur Chant

Succumbs from Injures Suffered Last Friday Night when Struck by Automobile

Funeral services for Arthur Chant, 71 years old, Richmond, who died at Reid Hospital early Tuesday morning of injuries he received last Friday night when he was struck by a car on the Hospital Hill, will be held at 2 P.M. Thursday at 1344 Harris Street. Burial will be in the Chester Cemetery.

He was struck by Ancil Jennings, 2108 Main Street, as Jennings was driving south on the hill, almost in front of the entrance to the hospital. According to the report Jennings made to the local police, Mr Chant, who apparently did not see his car approaching walked into the rear fender of the car after Jennings had swerved the machine sharply to avoid running him down.

Mr Chant was a lifelong resident of Richmond, born here July 8, 1864. He was a machinist and formerly employed by the Quaker City Machine Company. He resided in Spring Grove. Mr Chant was a member of the I.O.O.F Lodge.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Lulu Chant; a son, Franklin P. Chant, Marion; three stepchildren, James Hoover, Mrs. Luella White, Spring Grove, and Mrs. William Solomon, this city; a sister, Mrs. Anna Cutler, Douglas, Wyo.; 10 grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
