Vivian Murphy Bell Landers was a long time resident of Madison and Madison County passed away May 25, 2012 at her residence. Survivors are one son, Frank Joe Bell of Madison. Four grandchildren, Kathy Bell Ard, Stephanie Bell Grayson, Ferrell Mac Brown and Katie Bell all of Madison. Four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was the sixth of nine children born to the late Frank J. and Cordie Draper Murphy who were farmers in Madison County. Vivian graduated from Madison High School (no Madison Elementary) in 1939 and from North Alabama Business College in 1941.
Upon completing Business college she was employed by the construction contractors and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during the construction of Redstone Arsenal and the chemical warfare service working in the purchasing and cost accounting departments. On completion of the job, her husband was transferred to the Northwest Division Corps of Engineers on the Alcan Highway Project in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. She joined her husband in Edmonton and also worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers. 
In 1956 she was employed by Redstone Arsenal, Army Ballistic Management Agency and transferred to the Marshall Space Flight Center when it was organized. She was a charter member of NASA working in the Property and Supply Division, retiring 3 January 1987 as a Computer System Analyst. 
During her tenure she was the recipient of many awards for outstanding and sustained performance, group achievement, cost reductions and was featured in the "Star Spotlight" in the MSFC weekly newspaper in 1975. She was a pioneer in the development of the Property Management Division computerized on-line property and supply system which had the distinction of being the first system of its kind at NASA. During her early years at ABMA and MSFC she took several courses in computer systems analysis and programming. She was always seeking methods to enhance the systems for cost-cutting measures and to provide better service to MSFC users. Visitation will be Sunday, May 27, 2012 from noon until 2:00pm at Madison Chapel Funeral Home. Graveside will follow at 3:00pm at Madison City Cemetery conducted by Pastor Ricky Lowery.
