"The LaFayette Sun" - September 2, 1903:

A Big Day at Pleasant Hill.

Three weeks ago that man whose name is a synonym for song, JERRY WALKER PEARSON, began a singing school at Pleasant Hill and before it closed the enrollment had reached eighty-five.
That they made good progress was proven last Friday when the public was invited to spend the day with them. By ten o'clock the ground was covered with people who at the noon hour partook of as grand a dinner as was ever spread under the shade of trees. After dinner, Prof. PEARSON reviewed his pupils, which showed that they had made good use of the time. After a recess, Rev. Henry M. Hurst, the notable Shanghai (Note: Shanghai was a name used when he wrote a column for the newspaper), was introduced to the audience and spoke for about thirty minutes. The address was quite eloquent and was spiced with a deal of humor. They were fortunate in securing "Shang". After the address, Elder W. B. Morgan made a very interesting talk that pleased everybody, and then the last song was sung and with a general handshake they all said good-bye.
It was a day of pleasure and profit, and we hope next year to spend another such day at Pleasant Hill.

- Bonnie Eloise.
