Parents were Johann Jacob Blumer and Salome Schindler; they were married at Wartau-Gretschins in the Canton of Sankt-Gallen on 14 May 1724. Johann Jacob was a native of Schwanden in the Canton of Glarus; Salome was a native of Mollis in the Canton of Glarus.

Abraham matriculated at the University of Basel on 1 August 1754. He was ordained to the Ministry as a Reformed Pastor at Basel on 8 June 1756.
