Johnna Morgan Schmidt, 67, died October 18, 2005, in Coeur d'Alene, ID.
She was born November 18, 1937, to Frances (Maly) and Weldon Morgan in Inkom, Id., where she attended grade school until she moved with her family to Nampa, where she graduated from St. Paul's Catholic School. In 1950, Johnna entered the Order of St. Benedict at the Convent of St. Gertrude's in Cottonwood. She graduated in 1954 from St. Gertrude's Academy and made her first vows in 1955.
Johnna began her teaching careet at Anthony's School in Pocatelle, where she taught grades 5 to 8. She also taught 7th & 8th grades in Catholic Schools in Boise, Nampa, Greencreek and Cottonwood. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in education, English and social studies from St. Martin's College in Olympia, WA.
In 1971, Johnna began her secular life in Coeur d'Alene.
Johnna married Frank Schmidt on October 19, 1974. They moved to Priest River, then later to Post Falls.
She taught junior high school in the Lakeland School District in Rathburm.
She retired in 1995 after 39 years of teaching in Idaho.

Johnna Morgan Schmidt, 67, died Oct. 18, 2005, in Coeur d'Alene.

She was born Nov. 18, 1937, to Frances (Maly) and Weldon Morgan in Inkom,
Idaho, where she attended grade school until she moved with her family to
Nampa, where she graduated 8th grade from St. Paul's Catholic School.

In 1950, Johnna entered the Order of St. Benedict at the Convent of St.
Gertrude's in Cottonwood, Idaho. She graduated in 1954 from St. Gertrude's
Academy and made her first vows in 1955.

Johnna began her teaching career at Anthony's School in Pocatello, where she
taught grades 5, 6, 7, 8. She also taught 7th and 8th grades in Catholic
schools in Boise, Nampa, Greencreek and Cottonwood. During the summers, Johnna
continued her education at St. Martin's College in Olympia, Wash., where she
graduated in 1969 with a bachelor's degree in education, English and social
studies. She also received a master's degree in secondary education from
University of Idaho.

In 1971, Johnna began her secular life with a move to Coeur d'Alene. For 24
years, she taught junior high school subjects in schools in the Lakeland
School District in Rathdrum.

Johnna married Frank Schmidt on Oct. 19, 1974. They moved to Priest River,
then later relocated to Post Palls.

In 1995, Johnna received the Teacher of the Year Award from the Lakeland
School District. She retired at the end of the 1995 school year after 39 years
of teaching in Idaho schools. Her love of learning was shared with numerous
students who will remember her strict discipline combined with gentle
affection and humor.

Johnna enjoyed reading, gardening, sewing and sampling the world of dreams
with her friends in her dream groups. An active member of St. George's
Catholic Church in Post Falls, she also served as a volunteer for the Kootenai
Medical Center Auxiliary.

Surviving Johnna are her husband, Frank P. Schmidt, in Post Falls; brother
Rev. John W. Morgan, Sun Valley; sister and brother-in-law Francie and Chuck
Link, Boise; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces
and nephews.

Johnna's mother, father, stepfather, seven sisters and one brother predeceased
her.

Viewing hours will be 3-6 p.m. Oct. 24 at English Funeral Chapel, Post Falls.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Oct. 25 at St. George's Catholic Church, Post
Falls.
