Leon was an F1C in the US Navy assigned to the Bowers DE 637. The Bowers was hit by a Kamikazi off the coast of Okinawa on April 16th 1945 Killing, the numbers vary, from 39 to 61 men. He was the brother of James W. John F. and Roy T. Gerwig. Cunninghams gives an internment date of 03/07/51 possibly when his remains were returned.
