Evelyn Alford Lewis Godley, 76, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 19, 2012. Evelyn was born on October 28, 1935, in Wake County, NC, the daughter of the late Vascoe Earl and Bessie May Alford Lewis and loving wife of the late William Earl " Bill" Godley, Sr.
Evelyn enjoyed watching sports (racing, football, golf and basketball), putting together puzzles, playing card games, working sudoko challenges, going on nature drives and believe it or not, and bookkeeping.
Other than her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Frazier of Salem and brother, Stanley Lewis of Raleigh, NC
Surviving to cherish Evelyn's memory are son, Rick Godley and wife Wendy of Roanoke; daughter, Michelle Griffin of Roanoke; step-sons, Bill Godley and wife Suzanne of Manteo, NC and Wayne Godley and wife Susan of Spring Grove, Va; son, Marshall Frazier of Salem; grandchildren, Christy Howard and husband Kemp Jay and their family, and Rebecca, Laura, Matthew, Sam, Chelsi, Ambre, A.Jay and Madison; sisters, Frances Cooke of Raleigh, NC, Doris Poole and husband Dwight of Raleigh, NC, Janet Hardee and husband Henry of Shalotte, NC, Lyn Troxler of Cary, NC, and Faye Hurst and husband Julian of Apex, NC; brothers, Bill Lewis and wife Mary Frances of Raleigh, NC, Curtis Lewis and wife Sue of Raleigh, NC, Robert Lewis of Goldstone, NC ; sister-in-law, Marilyn Lewis of Raleigh, NC. As well as a multitude of nieces, nephews and dear friends who are family.
Evelyn was a very gracious and sharing person throughout her life. She was known for her generosity and willingness to help others whenever she was able. Due to her love of bookkeeping and creative financing, she and husband Bill were able not only to live the "American Dream" and provide a good home for their children, they were also able to help many family and friends in need.
The family will receive friends on Thursday May 24, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Family Choice Funerals & Cremations, Roanoke, Va.
The family will receive friends on Saturday May 26, 2012 beginning at 12:00 noon with a service celebrating Evelyn's life beginning at 2:00 PM at the Knightdale Baptist Church in Knightdale, NC with Mr. George Pullium officiating
