Mary E. Norris was born in Holmes County, Ohio, on Aug. 8, 1844 and died at Grinnell, Iowa, March 2, 1926, aged 81 years, 6 months and 25 days. In December 1861 she was united in marriage with George J. Manatt at Brooklyn, Iowa. Her husband preceded her in death in August 1914. Mrs. Manatt has been a resident of Grinnell since 1884 and has been well and favorable known. She was the mother of eight children, two of whom died in infancy, one daughter, Mrs. Eva Baggs died two years ago and a grandchild, Mrs. Harry Porter whom Mrs. Manatt raised died four years ago. The surviving children are, Mrs. W.W. Stowe, Grinnell, Mr. Jeff Manatt, Brooklyn, Mr. Clair Manatt, Monmouth, Ill., Elmer Manatt of Santa Ana, Calif., and Arthur Manatt of Grinnell. She also leaves 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Manatt was a long time member of the Methodist church in Grinnell.
A precious one from us is gone,
A voice we loved is still
A place is vacant in our hearts,
That never can be filled.
Funeral services were held at the home 603 High St., on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock conducted by Rev. Geo. Blagg. The hymns, "Jesus Lover of My Soul" and "Asleep in Jesus" were sung by Mesdames Ennis and Snook. Burial was made in the Brooklyn cemetery
