Herman 'Shorty' SCHLAGER married Dorothea 'Dora' Helena Wilhelmine BRUDER 10 August 1909 in Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of Moltke. Witnesses at their marriage by Rev. J. D. Druckenmiller were Friedrich & Anna Bruder.

To supplement family income, Dorothea would be head cook and forewoman for many wedding receptions.
