An article was published in the Suffolk County New in 1889 regarding her husband "E.A. Sloat - Mr. Sloat came to this town several years ago, when he purchased the drug business of Daniel Runyon, situated in the Mills Building. He is a learned and experienced druggist, and in our midst has made a large number of friends and moves in the best society circles. He is about 40 years of age and commenced the studying and compounding of medicines when quite young. His drug store is one of the finest furnished on Long Island and its management he is assisted by John Conklin, a druggist of long experience. His store has all the latest improvements, such as force water, gas, etc. Mrs. Sloat is a very estimable lady, and is well liked by her many friends. In anything that suggests improvement for the welfare of the people, Mr. Sloat is always ready to extend a helping hand."
