Edward Gill was born in Antiga, Wisconsin in 1906 to Ernest and Ethel Runnels Gill. The family moved often during Ernest's childhood. They were listed in different census as living in Ohio, Indiana, in Colorado and later in California. Edward's parents divorced when he was a child and Edward spent most of his early childhood living with his Father in the Midwest. Although he was an only child, Edward spent his childhood among loving family, consisting of his Father's nine brothers and sisters and their families. Edward's father, Ernest worked with the Telephone Company as an Electrical Engineer and was instrumental in setting up many of the original telephone lines that were going up across the Midwest and out to the West Coast at the time. Edward and Ernest eventually settled in California, originally in the city of Pomona, but finally settled in Redondo Beach, California where Edward started his own family.

As an adult, Edward worked as a radio engineer by trade, and later was involved with television development, maintenance and repair in it's early years. He worked for Griffey Electric in Redondo Beach, CA.

Edward was married three times during his lifetime. His first marriage was to Irene Roberts, who was born in 10/1908 in Detroit, Michigan. The marriage was brief and ended with the death of his wife and her infant during childbirth in 1937 in Redondo Beach, CA.

Edward married Mildred Hoyt in Nov 1938. She was born in 2/1917 and was the daughter of Thomas and Bertha Evans Hoyt of Redondo Beach. Edward and Mildred had two children.

Edward and Mildred later divorced in 1951 and Edward moved to Lancaster, California located in the Upper Dessert outside of Los Angeles, California. He moved to Lancaster to be near his Mother Ethel, who had remarried and lived on a cattle ranch there. It was in Lancaster where Edward finally settled and he lived there his wife, Olive until his death in July, 1976.
