VALDESE - Alice Virginia Abernethy Davis, formerly of N Rodoret Street, Valdese, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at College Pines Nursing Center.

She was born on March 21, 1916, in the Bridgewater section of Burke County and was the daughter of Ralph Aldolphus and Emily Belle Ballew Abernethy of Hickory. Pre-
ceding Virginia in death are her parents, one brother, John B. Abernethy, two sisters, Louise E. Abernethy and Helen S. Abernethy and her husband, William Earl Davis Jr.

Surviving are two sons and two daughters, William "Bill" Earl Davis III of Hickory, Richard "Rick" Edward Davis of Connelly Springs, Virginia "Ginny" Abernethy Davis Rector of Drexel and Martha "Marty" Elizabeth Davis Hatcher of Greensboro. Also surviving are one brother, Ralph A. Abernethy Jr. of Drexel and one sister, Josephine A, Morris of Icard.

Virginia served in the WAVES during World War II and reached the rank of Storekeeper 2nd class. She retired from Burke Mills Inc. and was a member of Valdese First Methodist Church.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Oakwood Cemetery in Hickory with the Rev. Jeff Johnsen officiating.

Family Funeral Care, Kirksey Chapel of Valdese is in charge of arrangements.
