VALDESE - Mrs. Josephine Abernethy Morris, 92, of Connelly Springs, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2004, at Morganton Long Term Care Center after a period of declining health.

Mrs. Morris was born Jan. 28, 1912, in the Bridgewater section of Burke County to the late Ralph A. and Emily Belle Ballew Abernethy.

She was a member and former Sunday school teacher of Mount Harmony United Methodist Church. Mrs. Morris was instrumental in forming the Advent Tea at her church. She was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as an aerographer's mate. She retired as a public school teacher, having taught both here and abroad in Panama.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Morris; and a son, Dean Morris.

Surviving are two daughters, Alice Morris of Morganton and Helen Simcoe of Connelly Springs; a grandson, Daniel Simcoe of Connelly Springs; a brother, Ralph Abernethy of Drexel; and a sister-in-law, Helen Abernethy of Valdese.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese, with the Rev. Joel Cook officiating.

Committal services will follow with military rites conducted by members of American Legion Post 234 of Valdese at the United Baptist Church Cemetery.

The Morris family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Heritage Funeral Service, Valdese.
