Dorothy S. Hansen, 93, formerly of 51 Pennsylvania Ave., died at 8:17 a.m. Tuesday (May 15, 2012), at Heritage Village Rehab & Skilled Nursing.
An area resident all of her life, she was born Aug. 18, 1918, in Jamestown, the daughter of the late Edof and Ellen Johnson Streed, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1936.
In earlier years, Dorothy had worked as a secretary for Prudential Insurance in Jamestown and later as a seamstress for Wellman Brothers Furniture.
She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had been active in Sunshine Society, Altar Guild and Lutheran Church Women.
Dorothy loved her family deeply and was very proud of the home she and her husband helped build. She was an excellent cook and baker and greatly enjoyed travel and her many trips throughout the years.
Surviving are three daughters: Cynthia Hansen-Barlow (Isadore) of Falconer, Sue Ellen Bates (Chester) of Fredonia, and Mary Beth Hansen-Chorny (Mick) of Binghamton; three grandchildren: Keely Knowles (Mark) of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Corey Norton (Amie) of Apex, N.C., and Patricia McNally (Allen) of Morrisville, N.C.; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon M. Hansen, whom she married May 2, 1942, and who died Feb. 9, 1988; and two brothers: A. Leroy and Harold Streed.
