Born in the "House of Mayors" at 500 N. Spring Street in Murfreesboro to James Henry Crichlow and Emily Lane. Served as mayor of Murfreesboro. The Crichlow Grammar School was named after him and his father James Henry Crichlow, who also served as mayor of Murfreesboro (1900 - 1909) and served as postmaster.

Married Martha Louise Quarles on 30 Sep 1916 in Clarksville and later lived in the Collier-Crichlow-Smythe house at 511 East Main Street.

Served as a private in the US Army World War I.
