David Mynatt Hallmark was born April 4, 1809 in Harris County, Georgia to John H Hallmark and Amey Anna Satterwhite. He grew up in Georgia and on November 2,1829, he married Altha "Martha" Larkin Lloyd. Together, they had nine children, four of which were born in Georgia and the last five in Texas. Their children were Thomas Luther, Mary A, John S, Sarah Ann Rebecca, James F, Lucy A, Martha Elizabeth, Elijah David, and Elisha Mitchell.

In 1834, David's uncle George Washington Hallmark, moved to Texas and fought in the Texas revolution in 1836. He must have really liked it there because in 1837, two more of George and Leanna's sons, John and Richard gathered up their children and all their families and moved to Texas also. I haven't counted them, but it must have been a great host of Hallmarks. This included David and Atha and all of their children. They did not participate in the Texas revolution, but they were certainly part of the Republic of Texas and the foundation of Houston County, Texas.

Martha died in 1853, leaving David with a farm and a houseful of small children. The youngest only about a year old. In about 1855, David married Elizabeth Anne "Betsy" Pruitt. Together, they had seven more children, Joseph, Robert Wesley, Samuel Houston, Nancy Mahalia, Tilman Bailey, Susan L, Araminta and Edward L Hallmark. Altogether, David Mynatt Hallmark had 17 children.

David spent the rest of his life in Houston County, Texas, raising his children, farming his land and enjoying his many and numerous great grandchildren. He died April 23, 1895, at the age of 86.
