Well Known Resident Passes Away at Home of Her Daughter, Mrs. W. H. Wright, Sunday
Mrs. Monica Haas departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Wright, Sunday, January 29, after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Haas was born in Alsace, France in 1838 and came to this country with her parents in 1813. She was united in marriage in 1861 to Mr. Joseph Haas at Ottawa, and after a residence there for some time they moved to Serena, where they remained until their removal to Hampton, Iowa, in 1889. The husband died in Hampton in 1895 and the following year Mrs. Haas came to Somonauk, where she since resided.
Mrs. Haas was held in high esteem by all who enjoyed her acquaintance and when her health permitted was ever ready to administer to the sick, who needed assistance.
To Mr. and Mrs. Haas were born eleven children, five of which preceded her in death. the living are: Mrs. Wm. Coultrip Sr., Mrs. John Grandadam and Mrs. W. H. Wright of Somonauk; Mrs. H. H. Elerding, Puyallup, Washington; Mrs. Grant Smith, Alexander, Iowa, and John Haas, Amboy, Ill. there are fourteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Catholic church at ten o'clock Tuesday morning, conducted by Father Welter. Interment took place at the Catholic cemetery."
