Somonauk Reveille - Somonauk, De Kalb Co., IL, Friday, April 20, 1894

Mr. Joseph Haas died at his home in Hampton, Iowa, Friday evening, April 123, of injuries received from a fall.
Deceased was born in France on March 31, 1845[sic]. At the age of 12 years he came to America and settled in Serena township. On the th day of March, 1853 he was united in marriage to Monique Fleck. To this union there was born eleven children, four of whom have preceded their father to the other shore. Five years ago Mr. Haas and family moved to Hampton, Iowa, where he was engaged in the restaurant and bakery business at the time of his death. He was well and favorably known at Hampton and leaves a large circle of friends to mourn his untimely death.
He leaves a wife, one son, J. E. Haas, six daughters, Mrs. Eugene David, Somonauk Mrs. John Grandadam, Serena; Mrs Julia Bracket, Tacoma ,Washington; Mrs. Ida Elerding, Hoxie, Kansas; Mrs. Grant smith, Hampton, Iowa, and Miss Lottie Haas, Hampton, Iowa; and one brother , Eugene Haas, residing north of Somonauk.
The remains were brought to Somonauk Monday, accompanied by the wife and son of deceased. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church and the interment took place at the Catholic cemetery.
