It was said she attended the Boggy Valley Baptist church. It is believed Richard is buried at Boggy Valley Baptist Church or at the Elbert Cemetery in an unmarked grave. Sister Maggie Winchester (born Margaret C Gathings) is buried in the Elbert Cemetery. Richard's mother and his other siblings are buried at Oak Grove in Graham, Young, TX. Other siblings are Margery Gathings Clepper, Sarah "Sally" Gathings Burris, John W Gathings, Mary Ann "Annie" Gathings Robertson, Leonard James "Jimmy" Gathings, Charles Jefferson Gathings. Father Charles W. Gathings and younger brother Henry Gathings who died between 1870 and 1877 may be buried at the Plunkaway Cemetery in Vernon County, LA. There are two unknown markers with the name Gathron there.
