The Fairfield Recorder
October 9, 1885
Died at his residence, four miles north of Fairfield, on Saturday, October 3, 1885, Mr. William S. Ward, aged about 66.
The deceased was one of Freestone's old residents having moved to the county about 1851 and like many of its older settlers came from Tennessee. He was a quiet, hard working old gentleman, a kind husband and father and a good neighbor and friend. His death is regretted by all that knew him and is a painful stroke to the bereaved family who will sadly view the vacant chair and places which he so long filled. Besides an aged wife, the deceased leaves a family of three daughters and two sons to realize their great loss. The deceased was interred in Fairfield cemetery last Sunday evening and many in attendance showed their respect for his memory.
