Robert Poplin CONCORD Mr. Robert Branson Poplin, of Pitts School Road, passed away Monday, Aug. 22, 2011, at CMC-NorthEast Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at Wilkinson Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. David Cox. Burial will follow at Mallard Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Robert was born May 1, 1927, in Cabarrus County to the late Robert M. and Bessie Harwell Poplin. He graduated from W.R. Odell High School in 1945 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers serving in the Philippines during World War II. Robert retired from Cannon Mills from the machine shop at Plant #6. He enjoyed traveling and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 8988 in Kannapolis and the DAV Chapter 27 in Concord. He was preceded in death by brothers, Dillard, Dempsey, Lloyd, Jhue, Richard, Paul, and Don, and his step-mother, Mildred Poplin. Robert is survived by his sisters, Bonnie Taylor and her husband, Larry; and Inez Tucker, both of Concord; Juanita Untz and Brenda Garr-ison, both of Mid-land; his brothers, Gene Poplin and his wife, Judy, of Wesley Chapel, and James E. Poplin and his wife, Pat, of Manteo, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Parkinson Association of the Carolinas, 5970 Fairview Road, Suite 725, Charlotte, NC 28210, or to the charity of your choice.
