He was born July 18, 1898 in Clark County, the son of William Wallace and Henrietta (Temple) Shanks.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Casey and a WW II veteran.
He married Arminda Cox in 1922; she preceded him in death in 1926. He later married Frances McCrory.
Surviving are his wife, Frances; two sons, Lowell and Clifford; one daughter, Geraldine Shanks; and two step-daughters, Mrs. Marjorie Ulrey and Mrs. Juanita McNary; one sister, Mrs. Weltha Bowman; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1:30pm at the First Baptist Church in Casey with Rev. Charles West officiating, with burial in the Olive Branch Cemetery, south of Martinsville.
