His father served in Wm Tecumseh Sherman's "March to the Sea" in the Civil War; and named his son in honor of the General.
Sherman was married 19 Feb 1896 in Greensburg, Decatur Co, IN to Emily J "Emma" VanKirk (1866-1900), daughter of Jacob VanKirk (1837-1906) & Sarah Bear (1838-1924) of Ripley Co, IN.
Emma died before her 35th birthday, leaving Sherman with two little sons:
~ William Allen Hutson (1897-1912)
~ Clarence Harvey Hutson (1899-1926)
Sherman remarried c.1906 to Anna E Idlewine (1869-??), daughter of Henry & Mary C Idlewine of Ripley Co, IN. Sherman & Anna were enumerated together in the 1910 through 1930 censuses.
