William Ferry was commissioned an officer on the staff of the 14th Michigan Infantry on December 14,1861.On June 30,1862 he was promoted to Captain and transferred to the U.S. Commissary Department.In March 1865,he was given a Brevet to Lieut.Colonel and was discharged on June 15,1865.In 1872 he ran for governor of Michigan and then Utah in 1904,losing both times.In 1893 he was appointed a commissioner to the Chicago World's Fair by President Benjamin Harrison.He spent his final years living in Utah.
