Ed Marotte Age/Birth Date: 21 Jun 1874 Death Date: 1 Jul 1912
Newspaper: Montgomery City Standard
Died from burns when kerosene blowtorch exploded while soldering metal gutters on two story home.
The Lincoln Star (Lincoln, Nebraska) Tue, Jul 2, 1912
The sudden explosion of a gasoline torch, throwing its burning contents in every direction, resulted in the death of Edward Marotte, a blacksmith living at Malcolm. Sunday morning, Mr. Marotte was at the farm of Christ Westfall, four miles north-west of Malcom doing some blacksmith work. While engaged in this work his gasoline torch, without warning, exploded and his body was completely covered with the burning fluid. Friends rushed to his assistance but before they could put out the flames of his burning clothing, his body had been badly burned. He was taken at once to his home and two Lincoln physicians were called but the shock finally proved too great and he died at 6 o'clock Monday. Mr. Marotte was 38 years of age and is survived by a wife, two sons and two daughters. The funeral is to be held at Malcom on Wednesday at 9 o'clock after which the body will be taken to Rheinland, Mo., for burial.
